Cardiology Fellowship

Conference

During the summer, July 1st Through Labor Day, the regular conferences are replaced by a set of introductory lectures (7 hours per week) presented by the faculty in order to help the first year fellows adjust to their new role as cardiology fellows. Following Labor Day, the regular conference series resumes with an average of 7 hours of conference per week. Conferences include:

Core Conference (50/year)

Covers basic core curriculum information required by a cardiology fellow but not covered by the introductory conference series. Also includes basic science, board review and recent practice guidelines.

Morning Report (20/Year)

A Clinical conference which includes presentation of interesting clinical case with a discussion of history, physical and review of imaging and hemodynamic studies. The cardiology resident is expected to review pertinent literature concerning the case.

Clinical Subspecialty Conferences

Cardiac Catheterization Conferences (50/year), Echo conference (24/year), Nuclear Conference (10/year), CT Coronary Angiography/Cardiac Magnetic Resonance Conference(10/year), Electrophysiology Conference (10/year), and Congestive Heart Failure (10/year), Cardiology Grand Rounds (16/year).

Clinical subspecialty conference with presentation of images and studies in each subspecialty with emphasis on clinical utility and utility in patient care. Cost effective strategies are stressed.

Electrocardiography Conference (50/year)

Weekly conference to review a structured curriculum of topics in ECG based on the American College of cardiology, COCATS II guidelines.

Journal Club (24/year)

Scholarly review of medical literature. A fellow and faculty member is selected to discuss recently published manuscripts.

Socio-economic, cultural and medical interdisciplinary conference (6/year)

Held with department of medicine resident’s conference on selected topics such as clinical ethics, medical genetics, patient safety, risk management, pain management, end of life care and physician impairment.

Medical Grand Rounds (6/year)

The Cardiology Fellow is expected to attend cardiology topic in medical grand rounds.

Vascular Morbidity and Mortality (12/year)

This is a combined multidisciplinary conference presented jointly by vascular surgery, interventional radiology and interventional cardiology.

Combined cardiothoracic surgery and cardiology Morbidity and Mortality (10/year)

This is a combined multidisciplinary conference presented jointly by cardiothoracic surgery and cardiology.
